Q: How can I be prepared for the future?

2 min

The illusive ‘future’ can be an impending nightmare or a bright light ahead.

Most of us let the future scare us because of the unknown. But should we always look at the unknown negatively? Let’s see what today’s question has to say on the topic.

Dear Ellie,

I feel like I don’t know where my life is going. I wake up every day, go to work, go to sleep and repeat.

What am I supposed to do?

I can’t break the cycle and I don’t want to feel like I’m repeating the same day for the rest of my life..

Caitlyn, today’s Dear Ellie columnist, has all kinds of clarity for us:

Dear Future Fanatic,

There’s no need to worry! You just need to spice up your life.

And you need to start realizing that the unknown can be the best thing that ever happened to you.

Think about your question…you said you don’t want to repeat the same day for the rest of your life. So, in a way, aren’t you asking for every day to have some unknown in it?

Got ya there! And that’s okay.

We don’t want every day to be the same. Surprises are something that is unknown, and they can be amazing. I think you should start looking to the future as if it is full of surprises.

There will be some days that are pretty repetitive, but try to surprise yourself with things like going to get your nails done, or going to dinner by yourself, or have a pampering spa night.

You get out of life what you put into it. So start doing some things that make you happy. Even if you just like to sing, and you sing in the car on the way to work, or you like to knit, so you knit at the end of the day watching tv.

Those little surprises or moments of happy you bring to your life, will make it better, I promise you that.

Now, if that’s not enough, you could do a complete reset…travel the world, start a new career, etc. But sometimes life just gets a little boring and we need to remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As the great Hannah Montana once said, “Life’s what you make it, so let’s make it rock!”, and I couldn’t have said it any better.

Ellie + Caitlyn
